Literature
Georges Bauquier, Fernand Léger, Catalogue raisonné 1929-1931, Paris, 2000, no. 741, illustrated in colour p. 229
Condition
The canvas is not lined. There are no apparent signs of retouching visible under UV light, and there are a few areas of fluorescence along the extreme edges probably due to an uneven varnish. There are a few thin scratches towards the edges visible in the catalogue illustration, including a 2cm. thin scratch towards the lower right corner. There is pinhead-sized paint loss to the centre of the upper edge. There are a few lines of craquelure in places and some surface dirt. Otherwise, this work is in good condition.
Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, the yellow tones are more vibrant and the grey tones are cooler in the original.

Catalogue Note
'His figures belong to the contemporary world [...] Leger's work never appropiated the classical idiom in a conventional manner. Contrast and dissonance are constant presences'
