Condition

The canvas is not lined. There is an uneven layer of varnish through which UV light cannot fully penetrate. There are two very small repaired tears with associated retouching, one below the larger fish and the other towards the centre of the right edge. There is a 4cm. line of fluorescence to the lower edge of the fish, probably retouching. These retouchings are visible under UV light. There are some areas of light craquelure, mainly to the upper half of the composition. This work is overall in good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, although slightly brighter in the original.
