Condition

The canvas is not lined. There is a layer of varnish which the UV light cannot fully penetrate. Under UV light, a few scattered spots of retouching are evident, including a very small spot in the upper right quadrant that corresponds to a small patch on the reverse. In the area around the house there appears to have been some retouching. This work is in overall good condition. Colours: Fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, but brighter and more green in the original.

Catalogue Note

'What I could not have done in society such as throwing a bomb- which would have led me to the gallows- I have tried to achieve in painting, through using pure colours directly from their tube. In this way I have satisfied my wish to destroy and be disobedient, in order to recreate a sensible, living and free world.'
