Catalogue Note

The first drawings of similarly shaped parallelogram wristwatches by Cartier are from the mid 1930s. An extreme variation on the rectangular Tank shape, vintage examples of this model are exceedingly rare and infrequently seen at public auction. Following a small second production run in the 1960s, in the 1990s Cartier introduced limited editions wristwatches of the same form based on the original design, of which the previous lot is an example.

Similar examples are illustrated in Cologni, F., Cartier: The Tank Watch, p. 218 and 105, and in Barracca, J. et al., Le Temps de Cartier, p. 211.
