- A RARE GILT BRONZE AND MAHOGANY GRAND AND PETITE SONNERIE PENDULE D'OFFICIER WITH MUSIC, ALARM AND REPEATCIRCA 1800
- height 12 in (31 cm)
• 3 7/8-inch white enamel dial, Arabic numerals signed Meuron & Comp., blued steel hands • gilt movement with verge escapement, balance spring with five-arm balance, steel balance cock mounted on a gilt platform, cord wound alarm work • all housed within a gilt bronze arched case with classical relief ornament, the base fitted with a musical movement playing two tunes, signed M. Bordier, the comb comprising 17 sections each of four teeth, pull wind fitted on the right of the base, the front plaque with levers for manual tune selection engraved Silence/Musique, Continue/Musique and Meme/Autre, left side of case fitted with lever for choice of striking and engraved Silence/Grande-Sonnerie/ Petite Sonnerie, another cord for repeat fitted into the left case top on carrying handle
Condition
The side hole for setting up music has been replaced and is lacking a knob. The repeating string is lacking a knob, as is the pull line. The alarm pull has been replaced. There is a split to the wood around the pull hole. The dial bears some light scratches. In running order. The alarm is working but the hammer requires adjustment as it only barely strikes the bell. Music playing. The wooden case bears 2 splits to the front, 1 to the side, and 1 at the back. Slight abrasions to the gilding from general wear. The back cover is of a later date. Service is recommended.

Located in Neuchatel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Paris and Geneva, the company specialized in both watches and clocks, a small number of their clocks, such as the present lot, featured music work.
