- A TWO DAY BOXED MARINE CHRONOMETER WITH TWIN BARRELS1830 NO 4959 THIRD SERIES
- width of box 8 in (20.5 cm), diameter of dial 3½ in (87 mm)
• twin barrels with stopwork wound separately through the bottom of the bowl, the bowl fitted with screw-down covers engraved with arrows pointing toward the direction of release, vertical brass protection plate to the inverted cut bi-metallic compensation balance, undersprung blued steel helical hairspring without terminal curves, with spring clamps and leveling facility • silvered matte dial signed Breguet, no.4959, chapter rings for hours and minutes, ring below for seconds • mounted within oval gimbals inside interior beveled top edge, 'quick release' latches, two-tier mahogany box, brass details and carrying handles, the top tier fitted with a small sliding panel for observation, bottom section of the case fitted with inset vertically mounted chart-table screws • Breguet winding key and Breguet certificate number 3867, recording the date of sale 1830 for 2400 francs

Condition
Accompanied by Breguet winding key, and another second brass winder which fits to the winding squares for fixing to the chart table. One of the brackets that holds the circular glass port is detached, dial restored. Running, but not consistent and now fully wound. The mahogany case is in good order, however the sliding panel flanked by splits on either side of the panel. Generally a nice example, apart from the dial.
