  • Asian elephant ivory
the Virgin on associated gilt-metal base decorated with medallions of Church Fathers, Christ with modern wood base.

Condition

Virgin: age cracks and surface wear and abrasions throughout. stains and remnants of old pigment. Both pinkies with losses. Swath of drapery on her proper right separately carved and attached with plugs, possibly later. Ears pierced but earrings lacking. Losses around base including a portion missing on her proper left. Metal base segments associated and with scratches and wear. Lower section with apertures for attachments but none are present. Christ: age cracks and surface wear and abrasions throughout. Both arms restored. Arms and some sections of drapery are carved separately, some possibly later and re-attached. Losses to pigment. Wood base later.
