Condition

View of Castel dell'Ovo: Picture probably has an old, thin, relining. To the naked eye the foreground elements appear to be in a good state of preservation with little damage or abrasion. The clouds and the sky have darkened slightly and appear a little flat. UV supports this naked eye observation, as there are numerous scattered retouches in the sky. The top edge of the canvas has a line of restoration which runs across the length of the composition, possibly due to an old frame. Other retouches are found in the water, but to a lesser degree than in the sky. The architecture is extremely well preserved, and has almost no retouches. Though there are numerous retouches in the sky, these have been applied well and are not loosely applied. In a carved giltwood frame. View of the Darsena: This picture probably also has the same old thin relining. Similar condition to the first picture, though fewer retouches in the sky. There is a small repaired rip in the canvas upper left, but it is very thin and there is not much retouching around the rip at all. Architecture is also in very good condition. In a carved giltwood frame.
