The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This painting has been recently restored and should be hung as is. The canvas has been recently lined. The paint layer is stable and well textured. There is no abrasion to the paint layer and very few losses or restorations. There are retouches addressing three or four losses on the left side of the sky, a loss in the upper right corner on the right side and a vertical cline of cracking running through the sky into the gondola in the lower right. There are a few other isolated dots of retouch but even in the shadowed side of the buildings on the left, the condition is extremely good.
