Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This painting has been recently restored, although the lining is old, and should be hung as is. There is slight thinness to the darker colors in the skull but given the delicate nature of many of the elements of the still life, the music and the playing cards for instance, the condition is very healthy. There is slight weakness to the darker colors, mainly because of a slightly gritty gesso layer which has caused this slightly grainy texture. This could be improved with a few delicate retouches but the painting is very presentable as is.
