each cresting with a ducal crown flanked by two birds, supported by two female caryatids, the apron centred by an espagnolette issuing a twin light candlebranch; rebacked; regilt
Condition
Impressive model and size. In overall good conserved condition and can be placed immediately.The gilding is slightly worn in places. Candelarms on both are later. Old very minor restorations to carving which are hardly noticeable and only visible when viewed from behind. A very minor section of carving chipped of eg to side of left mermaid and side of other mermaid but this is hardly noticeable. On the one in the top left of the photo, which is clearly visible, in the mirrored border top left side below the eagle, there is a very minor section of glass missing and a very small crack in the same area which can easily be restored.

Roberto Antonetto, Il Mobile Piemontese nel Settecento, Turin, 2010, Vol. II, p. 246, no. 7, illustrates one of two identical girandoles, from the Capellotti collection, Saluzzo and states that the crown is similar to that on girandoles in Palazzo Reale belonging to the Savoy family and the ducal crown was used by them pre-1713.
