Catalogue Note

A pair of wall-lights of this model attributed to Pierre-François Feuchère, offered Christie's London, 9 June, 2004, lot 97, is illustrated H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 242, fig. 4.5.7.  It has been suggested that the design is by Jean-François Forty (working before 1772-1790).
The design relates to a set of four in the Wrightsman Collection (F.J.B. Watson, The Wrightsman Collection, New York, 1966, Vol. III, p. 78, no. 309), supplied in 1787 or 1788, probably by Jean Hauré for the cabinet de Toilette de la Reine at Saint-Cloud.
A related pair, originally ordered for the Hotel de Deux-Ponts in Strasbourg and now in Schloss Aschaffenburg, also lacking the pendant section below the satyr mask, is illustrated H. Ottomeyer, ibid., p. 242, fig. 4.5.10.
