Condition

Overall in fair condition. The shade with approximately 10 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. Additionally there is one large area of impact along the bottom register of the shade (six rows high x four rows wide, 4 x 4 inch area, directly above the bottom shade ring). This localized area of the shade is slightly indented, with eight glass tiles that have multiple fractures, two of which have significant glass loss. This area of the shade will require professional restoration and glass replacement. (Please feel welcome to contact the department at 212-606-7170 to request photographs of this damage.) The gilt bronze alligator finish on the base has traces of heavy green surface oxidation throughout which is visible on the top surface of the base, standard and shade arms. Additionally the gilt surfaces of the base with considerable rubbing, areas of surface soiling and discoloration. The base retains its original riser, sockets and paddle switches. Lacking Bakelite cord bushing on the base. The matching period gilt finial with several shallow surface indentations and with surface discoloration and soiling throughout. The finial knop is loose and not firmly affixed to the finial. The threaded pin which is affixed to the underside of the finial is broken and slightly too short, and as a result is not long enough to screw into the base wheel below, which is presently plugged with the broken end of the threaded pin (this threaded pin can be easily replaced). The shade is slightly less saturated and less red than seen in the catalogue illustration, showing a gradual gradation from fiery orange along the top register to amber below. Estimate reflects condition. With the proper sensitive restoration this will be a very attractive lamp.
