Condition

Overall in very good condition. There are approximately 25-30 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout the shade, which is a relatively low number considering the vast number of individual piece of glass required to executed this intricate pattern and monumental shade. There are a few very small burst air bubbles to the exterior of the glass, and a few very small and minor surface flecks. The shade has considerable surface soiling throughout, especially around the perimeter edges of the lead lines, which would benefit from a sensitive cleaning. The shade leading is exceptionally fine and well executed, and displays a particularly rich and vibrant russet brown and green patina. Owing to this lamp's well documented provenance dating back to circa 1910, all of its components appear to have originated together from the time the lamp was acquired in the period. The senior floor base, socket cluster, sockets, switches, riser, wheel, and "Pig Tail" finial all appear to be original to the lamp and display a very consistent patina. The patina on these bronze elements is exceptional, displaying incredibly rich tonalities of green and russet brown. The cushion base shows minimal gentle wear, a few occasional light surface scratches, and some surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. There are two small and shallow surface indentations to the lower perimeter of the Pig Tail finial. A beautiful example of this rare iconic model, displaying a superb and artistic glass selection. Practically every decorative technique of glass is incorporated throughout the shade, including striated, mottled, rippled, and drapery glass, which imparts the shade with a tremendous amount of depth and visual movement. The individual glass tiles also show great subtlety and nuance, adding to the lamp's drama and visual interest. When seen in person, the glass is more vibrant and shows far greater variation and subtlety than seen in the catalogue illustrations (which are slightly dark and over saturated). The lamp presents beautifully, and the overall visual effect is highly impressionistic and painterly, capturing the essence of light radiating through the flower blossoms and foliage.
