Catalogue Note
The 1927 example engraved with the inscription: ' From Mr & Mrs N. Wurzal & Family. Leeds.' The other inscribed in Hebrew and one one of the heart-shaped shields: 'Mrs. R. Cohen.'
Nathan Wurzal, a tinner, was born in Austria about 1856 and died at the Herzl Moser Hospital, Leeds on 12 September 1936. He married Rosa Kanarianfogel, who was also Austrian, born about 1862, at the Belgrave Street Synagogue, Leeds, on 11 March 1885. She died in Harrogate on 20 November 1929.
A translation of the Hebrew inscription on the 1929 example reads: 'Donated by Rivka, daughter of Rabbi Itzhak In memory of her husband, Rabbi Yehiel Bar Abba HaCohen who died on 7 Iyar 5687 [1927].'
