V. Viale, Mostra del Barocco Piemontese, catalogue of the Exhibition, Turin, 1963, Tav.150, illustrates an armchair with similar legs and stretchers in the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica, Turin.
These chairs are inspired by Louis XIV models and originated both in Piedmont and in Liguria. The s-scrolled legs are typical of the period and called `os de mouton'.
A set of ten armchairs with similar legs and stretchers was sold in these Rooms, from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, 10th-12th March 1999, lot 160.
