Description

  • Approximately: 185cm. high, 258cm. wide; 6ft. 1in., 8ft. 5in.
composite tapestry, woven with allegorical figures, including Neptune, Galatea and Apollo, within landscape setting; lacking border, with later blue and yellow banded selvedge

Condition

In restored and rewoven condition. Stable. Linen backing. Presently attached with old hoops and it is recommended that Velcro be attached instead of the hoops, for hanging purposes in the future. Lacking border. New banded yellow and brown selvedge. Lacking border. Possibly reduced in height and width. Repaired vertical join (possibly old fold damage), up through standing figure of Apollo.Some repairs to highlight areas, for example sky, which is in stable condition. Reweaving to details such as Apollo's harp and feet, and to Neptune's spear. Reweaving to brown of Apollo's cloak and area in background. Repairs to lower corners. Good colour in places. Fine and charming detail to faces of two seated figures. Tapestry of versatile size and charming subject matter.
