  • 71cm. 28in. high
5-inch gilt dial signed Galle, Rue Richelieu, bell striking movement with outside count wheel and silk suspension, bell lacking, the case flanked by a Roman soldier holding a steelyard pan of coins and the steelyard, weights and martial trophies, the stepped plinth with bronze mounts

Condition

Dial a little dirty and slightly rubbed. Movement is not running and is much in need of a clean, it will require full service and overhaul, bell missing. The case in generally good condition with some old cracks and repairs, bronzes with good patination. With pendulum but no winder.

Catalogue Note

GĂ©rard-Jean Galle ( 1788-1846), was the son of the famous bronzier Claude Galle ( 1759-1815). He served in the infantry until his father`s death in 1815, when he returned to Paris to take over the atelier. In 1822, he moved it from the Rue Vivienne to 89 Rue Richelieu where it remained until 1836.
