Description
- Gilt wood
with ribbon tied arched backs with fluted spindles between palmfrond surmounts, with a shaped seat and fluted tapering legs
Provenance
Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire ( 1833-1908), Chatsworth, Derbyshire, previously sold lot 947 Chatsworth, The Attic Sale, 5-7th October 2010, shown illustrated in situ circa 1900, in the Gold Drawing Room
Condition
These chairs are all in country house condition. The gilding is largely original but is very worn all-over and chipped and has been touched up with gold paint particularly on the legs. The ribbon cresting is badly chipped on the cresting of two chairs. One finial is missing. The joints are loose on all. The caning is holed on two chairs
