Description

  • 16.5cm. 6½in. high
3¼-inch chapter ring, the tulip engraved dial plate signed Edmund Massey Londini Fecit, formerly with alarm disc and now with minute hand, the two train movement with verge escapement and external locking plate striking on the top mounted bell, now lacking alarm train, the posted case with shallow tulip frets, suspension loops and spurs

Condition

Dial rather dirty, alarm disc lacking, hour hand replaced and now with later minute hand. Movement appears to retain the original wheel trains with changes to the motion work for the minute hand and complete removal of the alarm train, much in need of a clean, bell with casting initials GB. With a lead weight.

Catalogue Note

Edmund Massey was apprenticed to Joseph Knibb in 1673 and became Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1682. This miniature lantern clock is similar to those produced by Knibb especially in the use of the shallow fret.
