each brightly enamelled with phoenix amidst blooms issuing from rockwork between a lotus-lappet band at the base and an elaborate band of shaped panels enclosing grisaille landscapes between be-ribboned ruyi-shaped motifs, the domed cover similarly decorated and surmounted by a Buddhist lion finial, the neck painted with a diaper collar
Condition
These large brightly enamelled jars and covers are in fair overall condition with the exception of the following: the one jar has a 14cm., wide crescent-shaped section missing from the rim with associated old over-painting to the interior of the rim, an associated 90cm., hairline crack which extends down from the rim and arc's around the body and up to the shoulder, with asssociated enamel loss and rubbing aklong this area, a 5cm., three-pointed star crack to the luting line; the cover has a 16cm., crescent-shaped section of the the rim which has been detached and restored, the lion finial has been re-attached and has loss to the head; the other cover has been broken in half and restored with several smaller repairs at the rim, the complete underside has been repainted; minor scratches and firing imperfections to both jars and covers.
