carved in almost mirror image, standing on elaborately pierced rockwork and with the heads raised and looking backward, the plumage carefully picked out, gilt wood bases

Condition
One of the wattles on one of the phoenixes is lost with a clean break measuring 1.5 x 0.4cm. There are other minor nibbling in the carving and natural veining with associated flakes.
The other phoenix is in excellent condition with the exception of natural flaw/veining with associated flakes particularly to the plumage of the bird.
The stones are of slightly more celadon tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
