Description

  • rhinoceros horn
the deep rounded sides rising from a flat base to a straight rim, the translucent horn of light honey tone with a patch of ink-coloured inclusion in the centre

Condition

The bowl is in good condition with the exception of natural flakes/chips to the rim (circa 0.3 x 0.3cm and 0.7 x 0.5cm) visible in the catalogue illustration, the exterior wall (0.2 x 0.2cm), as well as the base (0.7 x 0.5cm and 0.7 x 0.2cm) of the bowl. There is also a 0.2 x 0.2cm hole to the base at the centre, which was perhaps the point of attachment when the bowl is carved and polished. The horn is of a richer golden tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
