Description
- wood inlaid with coral, mother-of-pearl, soapstone, ivory and agate
of rectangular form, the carved wood panel inlaid with various hardstones including coral, soapstone, mother-of-pearl, agate and ivory, one face decorated with a military general and two scholars standing or seated around a table engaged in calligraphy, all set amidst a rocky landscape with leafy shrubs beneath scrolling clouds, the reverse with two archaic bronze vessels including a gu-shaped vase, all supported on a pierced wood stand

Condition
There is a 5cm age crack running vertically up from the middle bottom of the panel and a circa 5.5cm crack between the panel and the border which is slightly loose. The lower section of the mother-of-pearl inlaid gu-vase to the reverse of the panel might have been lost and replaced by another type of hardstone.
