  • Mother-of-pearl-inlaid lacquer
the rectangular top supported on pierced rectangular panels, resting on four scroll-form cabriole legs, joined by a shaped rounded apron, the upper surface framed and inlaid with a narrative scene depicting two scholars seated at a table laden with food in an open pavilion, with an attendant approaching from the right, a five-character inscription in the upper right hand corner, the apron inlaid with four shaped cartouches enclosing groups of figures within landscapes against a diaper ground, the legs, pierced sides and edges with further floral motifs and geometric bands

Condition

Significant flaking and losses to the lacquer and associated mother-of-pearl inlay, particularly arond the sides of the apron, the largest single area measuring approximately 20mm by 12mm. The upper surface of the table well retained. The lacquer all over, with small flaking and chips to lacquer to raised rim. The lacquer surface with some crackle.
