Description
the flat-back vase finely potted with a rounded rectangular body raised on a slightly splayed foot, tapering to a waisted neck beneath a flaring mouth, flanked by a pair of iron-red and gilt-decorated dragon handles, the central white rectangular panel inscribed in clerical script (lishu) with a poem followed by two iron-red seals Qian and Long, enclosed within a border of lotus, lily and iris blossoms borne on an undulating foliate scroll, flanked by stylised phoenix and kui dragons hovering amongst exotic flower scrolls on both sides, all below the curved neck similarly decorated with a blue bat flying over a blooming lotus, the foot further adorned with floral sprays and pendant leaves, all reserved on a lime-green background extending to the back, the interior glazed turquoise, the countersunk base similarly glazed save for an iron-red six-character reign mark
Condition
There are some expected wear to the enamels and gilding. A section of 1.3 cm to the mouthrim has been slightly retouched. The handles also have some retouched areas, possibly to conceal the wear. The suspension hole on the back has an old chip, but the vase can still be hung securely. Although there are some surface scratches and occasional glaze flakes, most of the original enamels and gilt decoration have been well preserved.
