Condition

Overall the condition of the terracotta is good. There is wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age including a few nicks such as that on the proper left cheek. There are losses to the gilding throughout. The lower half and top left corner of the relief are lost. The proper left hand and the corner of the background next to it were reattached. Part of the underside at the reverse was restored with resin. There are further remnants of glue along the lower edges. There are stable firing fissures visible on the reverse.

The present putto is the model for the weeping putto on the right side of the tomb of Monsignor Fabio Guinigi, sculpted in 1692-3, in the church of Santi Croce e Bonaventura de'Lucchesi, Rome.
