Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age including a few scratches to the proper right hand and the shoulderblades. There is a stable hairline fissure due to a casting flaw visible at the proper right calf. The condition of the base is good.

Catalogue Note

The model for the present bronze is widely accepted to be by Barthélemy Prieur (see Avery, op. cit. p. 190.) A close comparison can be found in the figure sold in these rooms on 10 June 1969, lot 71, then attributed  to Camelio.
