Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. All elements are stable and secure. There is evidence of mild oxidation at the joins. All other surface inconsistencies appear inherent to the medium and the artist's working method.

"The series of single body works all entitled Domain that began in 1999 envisage the body as an open structure or 'field', a random matrix of thin steel bars of varying lengths arranged within the bounds of the body's invisible skin." The form and pose of Domain LXII (Maria), unlike many of the other works in the Domain series, is not taken from a plaster mould of the artist's body, but rather from the moulding of a young Swedish dancer called Maria. Domain LXII (Maria) is the most delicate of the Domains, made of the thinnest square stainless steel available. The resulting work has a tentative alertness that makes it unique in the evolution of the series.

The Domain was a breakthrough substituting space and light for mass and structure.
