Condition
This painting is in very good condition overall. The surface is a complex amalgam of paint, adhesive and straw which appears secure and stable. There are a few scattered areas of inherent cracks to be expected where large dollops of paint bridge from the canvas to the accumulations of straw. There is also a thick accumulation of grey/white paint that has hairline cracking around the edges and is partially lifting slightly from the canvas, located 5 7/8 – 6 ¼ from the right and 24 ¾ - 25 ½ in. from the top. Another heavy stroke of grey/white pigment has a pinpoint triangular loss adjacent to a small crack on its ridge, located 8 ¼ from the left and 28 ¼ in. from the top. Under ultraviolet light, there are no apparent restorations. This canvas is framed in a wood strip frame, painted gray, with a deep recess to protect the textured surface.
