Une esquisse en plâtre est conservée au musée d'Orsay (Inv. no. RF2933), une version en terre cuite au musée des Beaux-Arts de Valenciennes. Adolphe Boschet fut Secrétaire Perpétuel de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts, célèbre musicographe et critique français, auteur d'un ouvrage de référence sur Berlioz.
