Condition

The condition is overall very good with some surface dirt. There is an old fracture to the child's left ankle, probably the result of firing. Otherwise the condition is very good.

Catalogue Note

Charles, le fils de Carpeaux, tombe malade en 1872 et aura ainsi la fonction d'un trait d'union entre le couple dont les relations s'étaient dégradées ces dernières années. A partir de cette terre cuite originale, la famille Carpeaux réalisera des tirages posthumes en bronze (Lot 42). Une autre version est conservée au Petit Palais.
