Condition
Overall the condition is very good. There is general surface dirt. There are some small firing holes, notably on the boy's back. There is a small patch of resin or hardened wax on the back of the base. Otherwise the condition is very good

Catalogue Note
Cette terre cuite illustre à merveille le processus de création et la spontanéité du geste du sculpteur. Selon les récits de Louise Clément-Carpeaux, cette esquisse est l'une des dernières œuvres réalisées par Carpeaux en 1874, peu avant sa mort, rendant hommage à son dernier fils, Louis-Victor, né la même année : 'L'artiste dessine la jolie courbe de l'enfant, occupé à jouer avec un petit cor de chasse...'. L'œuvre finale en bronze de L'Enfant au cor appartient à la collection Ginepro, des versions en plâtre sont conservées dans les musées de Valenciennes et Nice.
