Description

the ovoid body rising to a sloped shoulder flanked by a pair of moulded lion-mask handles, all below a waisted neck flaring at the mouth, finely carved on both sides in low relief with a ferocious five-clawed en face dragon with long whiskers and a flowing mane, the sinuous body detailed with scales, covered overall with a soft glaze of a celadon-tinged white tone, deepening to pale blue in the recesses of the carving, the base unglazed

Condition

The overall condition is quite good for its size, except for some minor firing cracks and glaze flakes to the mask handles, including a 2 mm firing crack to the nose of one handle. There is a 1.7 cm chip to the lower eye lid of the other handle. There are also some iron spots to the exterior, minor surface scratches, as well as some kiln grits around the foot.
