This painting is a direct modern copy of an illustration from a well-known Ragamala series attributed to the artist Nasiruddin at Chawand (Mewar) in V.S.1662/A.D.1605. The original from which this was copied was also in Stuart Cary Welch's collection, sold in his sale in these rooms 12 December 1972, lot 85. It was subsequently in the collection of Paul F. Walter and was sold in our New York rooms, 14 November 2002, lot 15. The illustration represents Desaviradi Ragini.
