Catalogue Note

The two items in this lot are:

A: A fragmentary drawing of three princely huntsmen on horseback, Bundi, late 17th century. The general style and compositon of this drawing is very close to two Bundi paintings of huntsmen on horseback of circa 1660-1680, one sold in these rooms 23 April 1997, lot 11, the other illustrated in Falk 1988, no.13, pp.17-18. The face of the uppermost huntsman on the present drawing bears a strong resemblance to Rao Chattar Sal of Bundi (r.1631-59) and Rao Bhao Singh of Bundi (r.1659-82).
B: A horseman with an attendant and a dog, Marwar, 18th century; reverse with a horseman with a bow and arrow.
