Catalogue Note

Habitant les hautes terres du Luzon septentrional, les Kankanay et les Ibaloy ornaient le cercueil des défunts importants de chevilles (pegs) à figuration anthropomorphe, qui en fixaient le couvercle à chaque extrémité. Appelées tinagtago (« comme un homme »), elles étaient considérées comme des figures protectrices (Solheim, 1959 : 126) et évoquaient les ancêtres, dans la position fœtale où les morts étaient enterrés. cf. Anderson (2010 : 158, n° 218) pour une cheville de cercueil d'ancienneté et de style très comparables.
