Description

  • A Sabaean Alabaster Head of a Woman, Southern Arabia
  • alabaster
  • Height 9 1/4 in. 23.5 cm.
with slender slightly tapering neck, her oval face with straight mouth, triangular nose, pointed oval inlaid eyes, and grooved eyebrows, the semircular ears with concentric grooved detail, her long hair roughly worked.

Condition

Good and as shown. Minor chips. The roughened hair probably had stucco detail attached at one time. It is possible that the front of the nose was at one time chipped and pushed back somewhat, perhaps even in antiquity, since it is quite flat.
