- An Egyptian Bronze Figure of Osiris

- Height 8 1/4 in. 21 cm.
incorporating attributes of Ptah, wearing a close-fitting cloak, braided beard and atef-crown with finely engraved uraeus, an ankh and a scepter combining the was (with highly detailed head of the Seth animal) and djed in his hands, his face with large almond-shaped eyes and short straight nose, beard-straps and long, square-tipped eyebrows and cosmetic lines inlaid in lapis-lazuli blue glass, eyes in white and black, remains of gilding on the face and crown, the wood base probably ancient.

Condition
Excellent condition. As shown and described. The glass inlays have degraded in areas (see catalogue frontispiece detail on p. 7) and parts are fragmentary or missing, but it is unusual for any glass inlay to survive on bronzes. We do not know what the whites of the eyes and the one remaining black pupil are made of.
There are a 3 small spots of bronze disease on the edge of the feet (one visible in photo), and at some point in its modern history prior to 1982 the feet and wood base were splashed with specks of blue paint.
