Unusual "Farm-Made" Whirligig of Men Working From the Hess Farm, Greeley, Iowa, circa 1882

Comprised of several "vignettes", the first with two men sharpening an ax on a grind stone; the second two men cutting a tree limb in half with a cross-cut saw; the third with a man with a tin beard playing a fiddle while another smoking a pipe stomps his feet to the music- all move synchronized by propeller; the final vignette with rooster and hen pecking corn mounted on a wood wagon axle.

Provenance

This hand-made whirligig came from the Hess Farm, Greeley, Iowa, circa 1882. The farm was sold in the 1970's to a neighboring farm family. It has remained in that Iowa family to the present owner.
