Catalogue Note
Historically, hide painting was an important tradition amongst the tribes of the Plains. Cadzi Coty continued this tradition into the early reservation period and was known to have painted at least a dozen hides for commercial trade. A comparable example, dated 1890-1900, can be found in the Minneapolis Museum of Art, accession no. 85.92.
