Condition

Overall in very good condition. This vase has been closely examined by a ceramics expert, and has also been closely examined under blacklight, and there is no visible evidence of any prior restoration. There is a horizontal firing fold (2 ΒΌ inches in length) which is inherent in the making located at the central midsection of the vase. This fold does not go through the body to the interior and possibly follows a luting line. The exterior surfaces of the vase with a few occasional minor surface abrasion marks from prior surface contact. The glaze on the interior and exterior with fine crazing throughout. An outstanding and rare example distinguished by its impressive monumental scale, bold form and decoration, and beautiful subtle glazing. The transparent green glazes washed over the ochre ground on the background of the vase show far greater nuance in color than seen in the catalogue illustrations. The Peapod decoration is incredibly crisp and dimensional.
