the square base chased with undulating lobes, the corners with grotesque maks flanked by trailing ivy and two sides with vacant reserves framed by ribbon-tied berried laurel, the square inkwell slighly bombe, the sides decorated with owls flanked by acorns and scrolls, mounted with a silver collar and hinged cover chased with berried foliage

Catalogue Note
According to Gorham's archives as reproduced by Larriy Pristo in Martelé 950-1000 FINE Gorham's Art Nouveau Silver, Inkstand 9406 was completed on 23 March 1898. The silver was raised in 25 hours and then chased for an additional 57 hours. At the time of completion the net factory price was $110. It is also noted that the "owl ink" glass cost $50.
