Condition

Overall good condition showing normal wear consistent with age and use. The bench has nicks, dings, scratches, and scuffs throughout. There are also spots of paint residue, quite concentrated on the back of the seat (behind the hinges). Edges with occasional small losses. The front of the backrest with a curved crack (approx. 3 ½ in. long). The reverse of the back with an oval patch (approx. 3 ¾ x 2 in.) that appears to be original to the piece. The underside with long diagonal indentations that also appear original to the making and they are unobtrusive. Some edges of the underside, particularly to the facing left side with small unobtrusive losses and areas of restoration. The chains also appear to be original. Surface dirt throughout. Metal plates with discoloration (possibly varnish residue). Nice, sturdy example.
