incised LINE VAUTRIN
talosel and mirroed glass
Provenance
Collection of Wayne Schwartz, Southampton, NY
Condition
Overall very good original condition. Please note the measurements of this lot as it is a large scale mirror. The talosel used to the render the frame of this mirror is very stable in excellent condition. There are no signs of warping to the frame. The points to the extremities of the frames with a slight inward directionality, so the edges of the points rest on the wall on which the mirror is mounted. The inset glass elements to the points with scattered cracks, which is consistent with the aging process of the materials. Some of the mirrored surfaces with losses to the silvering and some darker discolorations. This again of the mirrored elements has only heighted to the appearance of the inlays and added depth to the work. The other square mirrored inlays closer to the central mirror with some cracks, however all remain in tact. Some very slight discoloration to the racked talosel portion of the frame immediately adjacent to the central mirror as seen in the catalogue illustration. This mirror is an excellent example of the form, not only because of its scale, but the superb condition of the mirror and frame.
