Catalogue Note
The eight reserves around the rim depict Minerva and the seven liberal arts: astrology, geometry, arithmetic, music, rhetoric, dialectic and grammar. The same model of dish was presented as a trophy for the Ladies Single Championship of the All England Tennis Championships. It was given to the winners, and first presented in 1884.
