set on a revolving gilt bronze mounted ebonized pedestal
Condition
Overall in good condition. Finely carved, some pitting to the surface consistent with natural grain of stone. Some minute fillings to the pitting in places. Dust and dirt to surface, which can be professionally removed. As visible in the online illustration, in the image showing the sitter's back, there is gray natural veining to the back of the left shoulder. The pedestal with the usual scratches, nicks and dents consistent with age and use. As visible in the catalogue illustration, the pedestal has been veneered with a burr wood sheet, which tends to flake and bubble. The pedestal will most probably need to be decorated, repainted and cleaned. The two gilt bronze edges showing to the front are lacking to the back, but it is not possible to say if they were once present. The gilt bronze wreath centering the pedestal is only present to the front. There is no laurel wreath to the back of the pedestal.
