Catalogue Note

This pair of cast iron torchères is a copy of the model by Alexandre Falguière based on a plaster study of the celebrated sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. The Falguière originals were purchased by Emperor Napoléon III from the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1867 for the Palais de Compiègne where they have remained to this day.
