Condition

To the top of each side board, one can notice holes to the vertical block behind each sphinx, which implies a loss of gilt-bronze mounts. The marble top of the largest side board has been extensively broken and restored, now showing light green fillers. However, there are still some chips to the front edges of the marble tops. The small side board shows an extensive chip to the mahogany molding beneath the marble top, about 4 inches long. The table, once extended with its leaves, is wobbly. However, once closed, of which an illustration is available online, the table is sturdy. 11 side chairs seem to have had additions to the bottom of the legs; however, despite those additions, the 14 chairs are more or less the same height (give or take a half inch). One side chair shows restoration to its left-hand side of the backrest, which translates in a restored horizontal break. Another side chair has had restoration to the legs beneath the frieze with metal brackets. One leg still remains unstable and will need restoration. The silk shows water damage in places, resulting in black stains . One arm chair has extensive stains and some holes in the silk. The table top, including the leaves, shows scratches, pitting and flaking to varnish, in addition to slight color differences. Would recommend refinishing the top for unity of color. One side chair lost its palmetto metal mount to its top left-hand side. The broken arm chair mentioned earlier shows losses to the four palmetto mounts to the top of the front legs. Some side chairs have a different palmetto design mount than the others; there seem to be two different designs overall.
