the demi-lune ended rectangular shaped panel richly applied with relief gold work scrolls and various foliate motifs, interspersed with applied braid strapwork, the centre of each side applied with a cartouche with ribbon bound palms, and swag surmounted by a coronet, enclosing a shield with horizontal yellow, silver and red, and initials SMDM, on a ground of white silk with embroidered silver details to imitate ermine,

Condition

Whole panel is lined with crimson satin. Some white paint marks on reverse lining. Panel is comprised of seven joined velvet panels (each 586cm. long). The narrower edges are demi-lune shaped, with extra braid It is gathered and sewn in each corner, where it would hang from the corner of the table top. The central rectangular area (335cm. by 119cm.) without any applique, would cover the table top surface. There is a horizontal split in one far corner of the table cover, running along the edge of the gold outer braid edge and the velvet, which can be repaired. Some loss of threads and tarnishing. Velvet creased and with impressions of gold work design. Overall in very good condition.
